Witness: A Lawyers Journey from Litigaiton to Liberation - Lessons for Surviving and Thriving in the Legal Profession • Boulder Colorado
October 23, 2017
Noon - CU Law School - The law is immersed in the "us vs them" paradigm and few major revisions have taken place inthe practice of law in decades. The strongest advocate or most zealot warrior still seeks to prevail in a winner take all arena. People leave the system felling betrayed or wounded. Lawyers around year eight hit the skid and they question if they can continue to practice. This talk by Eric Sirotkin, the author of Witness: A Lawyers Journey from Litigation to Liberation, presents a new approach to conflict and advocacy that builds rather than destroys and each interaction, conflict and contact enriches the practitioners, and helps us build ourselves up as human beings and as lawyers.

Twelve Steps to Peace in Korea: Being an Active Witness for Change
August 05, 2017
Sat 6:30 PM EDT · 3883 Plaza Dr, Fairfax, VA 22030-2512, United States Reading and talk with human rights attorney and Korea Peace Activist Eric Sirotkin - co-sponsored and presented by the National Association of Korean Americans. Witness is about being an active witness in this world, rather than a victim of our times and circumstances. It tracks my journey of moving from a world of us vs them, to one of more connection and ubuntu. It has several chapters from my work in South Africa with the ANC and with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, as well as peacebuilding as a lawyer around the world and in the courtroom. The later chapters cover my trips to North and South Korea and the 12 step model for peace that I proposed in Pyongyang and to Congress and the State Department. With the militarism heating up in Washington against North Korea we are in deep need of new creative solutions.
